MULTIMEDIA APPROACH

                                                                    

   

                   Educational technology, the science and technology of teaching and learning, has evolved and devised various techniques, strategies approaches for both the teacher and learner to realize their teaching – learning objective in a quite effective way.            Multi- Media Approach consisting the use of many appropriate and carefully selected devices, techniques, and media in such a combination as to yield in the most effective realization of the teaching – learning objectives in a best possible way.It is defined as, “an approach to teaching – learning process which digitally integrates text, graphics, animations, audios, videos, still pictures, and motion videos”. It is proposed by Bob Goldstein (1966).  In this approach, teaching- learning process is carried out through a number of media by using them in such a planned and organized combination. It is a combination of hardware, software and system approach.

Characterestic Features

Ø  It can convey vast area of information.
Ø  It provides the opportunity to gain mastery of competencies and skills.
Ø  Uses different media, devices and techniques at same time.
Ø  It improve the process of teaching – learning.
Ø  It provides meaningful learning experience.
Ø  Media use in sequential and judiciously.
Ø  It is a powerful means of communication.

    Role of Teacher

• Ø  Teacher has to adopt a number of methods and techniques, he cannot be satisfied with the lecture.
  
• Ø  Teacher has to be aware of different available media and their availability.
  
• Ø  Teacher makes a judicious choice of media.
  
• Ø  Teacher as facilitator, students make self paced learning.

     Advantages

v  It allows students to organize information in meaningful ways.

v  It provides different learning styles.

v  It helps in self paced learning of students.

v  It makes learning meaningful and pleasurable.

v  Anywhere and anytime learning.

v  It breaks language barriers.

      Disadvantages

v  It requires sophisticated instruments, make financial burden.

v  Teacher must expertise in technology and skill to use variety of media.

v  It is not feasible in all topics.
